Vignette: Carrousel Ride at the Hotel de Ville

The Hotel de Ville, the City Hall of Paris, houses the administration of the City of Paris, including the office of the Mayor of Paris. It also serves as a venue for large receptions. The original Hôtel de Ville was built in the 16th century. In 1871, this building was destroyed by fire. In 1882, the building of today was built and is a copy of the previous Hôtel de Ville. The Place de l’Hôtel de Ville continues to frequently hold festive events.

We passed by an empty Place de l’Hotel de Ville just a few days before we happened to go by again, and this elaborate, double-decker carrousel had appeared. It was a very handsome carrousel, but it was a surprise to see it in the middle of downtown Paris rather than in a park or at a fairgrounds.

The grand and imposing Hotel de Ville on the rue de Rivoli and across the Seine River from the Ile de la Cite and Notre Dame. On this day, there was only a big, empty courtyard.

The Place de l’Hotel de Ville and a very ornate carrousel named "La Belle Epoque" that appeared only a few days later.

The little blonde girl looks as if she needs some reassurance from her mother that she’s really going to have fun on this ride.

Her mother is confident that the little girl will enjoy it.

Ready or not, off she goes.

We knew all the time that she would enjoy it, didn’t we?
