The Paris Bird Market

On Sundays, the Flower Market converts for a day into a Bird Market, where there are many kinds of birds and supplies for keeping them and feeding them. The bird food in a bird diet is not as simple as we may think, and at this market you can find the essentials of a good bird diet. There is also a lot to know about their care, so if you’d like a bird of your own, the bird vendors can fill you in on how to take care of one.

Robert observes a cage full of canaries close-up.

Who knew there were all these kinds of bird food?

Tall sacks and short sacks of bird seed

More sacks of stuff for birds

There are a lot of bird cages at the market.

Different vendors, different cages

More bird cages in one place than I’ve ever seen in my life

Bird houses and bird feeders for those wild backyard birds

Flat cages of birds for sale

Pretty yellow canaries in a cage

I’ve never seen red crested canaries (?) before.

Red Factor canaries--bred for their color rather than for physical characteristics or song

Fluffy chickens and a dove
These chickens are called “silky (or silkie) chickens,” and they come in white, black, blue and buff. I learn something new every day.

Birdseed on a stick

Rarer, more expensive birds

The white bird is 80 euros ($110), the yellow is only 45 euros ($62)

A Bengal bird

Roosters

A long line of birds in cages--and not to be photographed!

Neatly aligned white bird cages

Double decker bird cages

Vendors’ stalls

One scared bunny--he's too pretty to be sold as anything but a pet.

All manner of toys for your pampered pet

Three euros ($4) per fish or 2 for 5 euros ($6.80)

Four euros ($5.50) per fish or 3 for ten euros ($13.70)

This is the Metro stop that couldn’t be closer to or more convenient for both the Flower and the Bird Markets
